Peter Lawrence

Director of Transportation

Peter Lawrence began his school bus industry career as a school bus mechanic in 1988. He advanced his career to hold positions as a school bus driver, head mechanic, bus driver trainer/safety coordinator, head bus driver, and currently holds the director of transportation position at Fairport Central School District. He was promoted to the director of transportation position in 2003.

Education has always been a priority for Peter as he has devoted his spare time to completing his secondary education. He holds the following degrees: A.A.S. in Automotive Technology, B. S. in Managing Human Resources, M.S. in Management, a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Business Administration, and a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) degree specializing in K-12 Educational Leadership.

Peter has authored numerous articles for trade publications in the transportation industry. He is a nationally Certified Director of Pupil Transportation (CDPT), through the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT). He has completed over 40 NAPT professional development courses and teaches regularly for NAPT across the nation. He has presented to transportation professionals in Belgium, Canada, China, India, and Turkey at International conferences.

In 2006, he was awarded New York State’s highest honor in the transportation industry by receiving the “Art Schock Award.” In 2007, he was awarded School Transportation News and NAPT’s “Leadership Award.” In 2009, he was featured in School Bus Fleet Magazine’s November issue of the most fascinating personalities for 2009. Most recently in 2011, the National Association recognized him for Pupil Transportation with their “Distinguished Service Award.”

His hobbies include spending time with his family, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, reading, and writing articles that focus on helping to make other peoples’ lives a little bit easier.
