Fire detection in toilets and driver sleeper compartments in coaches

As part of the work of the ‘Fire detection and fire alarms in heavy vehicles – research and development of international standard and guidelines’ project, full-scale tests have been carried out in a coach toilet and in a driver’s sleeping compartment. The tests were intended to provide recommendations for the installation of fire detection systems in these areas, and the results show that there are considerable differences between types of detectors and detector positions. The recommendations are particularly relevant, as the installation of detection systems in these areas is compulsory in European coaches with effect from July 2014.
